GENERAL INFORMATION

Tanzania

Tanzania is one of the East-African Countries situated off the coast of the Indian Ocean. It is bordered by seven countries viz: Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique. Rainfall is bimodal with an average maximum of 2300mm. Temperatures vary greatly by location and altitude but is 22o C on average. Weather at Moshi town is expected to be cold and rain at the time of he Symposium - so some warm clothing and a handy umbrella are advised. Tanzania is a safe to travel to and her people are warm-hearted and generous, always eager to help visitors get the most out of their stay in Tanzania. However, reasonable precaution is still necessary for your own safety and that of your valuables. In case of any emergency, report to the nearest police station or call the secretariat at +255 769 190 099. Tanzania is also a globally reckoned tourist destination and five word-famous safari destinations of Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Manyara, Kilimanjaro Mountain, Tarangire and Arusha National Parks are within hours of driving from Moshi Town. Those in need of embarking on a tour safari as part of their visits, are advised to book directly online or contact the Symposium Organizers for assistance. International Travel

Participants should arrange to arrive in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International Airport, situated some 42 Km from Moshi Town. Airport transfer services will be arranged but alternatively, there are regular private shuttle mini-buses that serves between Moshi Town, Arusha City and the Airport. Please ask for the Moshi-Airport service which takes about 1.30-hour drive. An information desk is available at the Airport exit for enquiries.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements into Tanzania for international participants may differ from one participant to the other, depending on the country of origin. Participants are strongly advised to check and comply with any specific entry requirements via https://immigration.go.tz or through Tanzanian Embassies in their own countries.

Workshop Venue

The Symposium will be hosted at the College of African Wildlife Management (CAWM), Mweka, main campus near Moshi Town, Tanzania, from 20-21 November 2023. The College is situated some 15 Km from Moshi Town and is easily reachable by road (About 20 minutes’ drive).

Accommodation

Participants should arrange for their own accommodation bookings in Moshi Town well ahead of the meeting. We recommend that participants make their own hotel bookings. Moshi has a range of good accommodation facilities that can be easily searchable through the internet https://www.booking.com. As a quick guidance, a list of recommended hotels is provided in Annex I. Alternatively, contact the Symposium organizers in advance in case you need specific assistance in accommodation related issues through symposium@mwekawildlife.ac.tz or cawmsymposium@gmail.com. Daily round-trip scheduled shuttle services will be provided to transfer the participants residing in designated/registered hotels to the workshop venue during the course of workshop.

Registration

The Registration desk will be open on 19th November 2023 starting 12:00 to 16:00h and on 20th November 2023 from 08:00-08:40h at Major Kinloch Hall where delegates will be served with conference material and a Name Badge. For security reasons, please, you are strongly asked to always wear your Name Badge throughout the course of the Symposium sessions. If you lose your badge, please ask the Organizers to issue you with a new one.

Lunch and Refreshments

Lunch and refreshments will be served free of charge during the entire course of the Symposium.

Dressing code

All participants are advised to wear smart. You will also be served with conference uniforms which you can wear at your own liberty.

Time Zone

The time zone in Arusha is GMT +3 Hours.

Banking

Banks and Bureau de Changes are available at the Airport and in Moshi town. Banks are open from Monday to Friday 8:30 to 16:00hrs and Saturdays from 09:30 to 12:00. Several ATMs with multinational financial services are also available in Moshi town. Most accommodation facilities accept credit cards. Contact the Organizers in case you need any assistance.

Electricity

The voltage in Tanzania is 220 volts AC 50Hz. Most of the sockets require three pined plugs.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony is scheduled on 20thNovember 2023 starting 19:00 hours at the College Campus. Please confirm if you will participate in this event in advance through cawmsymposium@mwekawildlife.ac.tz

Closing ceremony

Closing event will take place starting 19:00 hours on 21 November 2023.
