Sub-Theme 3: Financing: Optimizing mechanisms for financing wildlife conservation

Traditional mechanisms for financing wildlife conservation in Africa such as through Tourism appear to be increasingly overstretched. Most recently, novel financing mechanisms have emerged and tested in some parts of Africa and across the world. To create the critically needed financial environment for sustaining wildlife conservation in Africa, there is need to take stock of existing lessons from alternative financing initiatives. This theme will explore issues beyond business-as-usual wildlife conservation funding models in a view to diversify and upscale their application for improvement of wildlife conservation and management in Africa.

  • Seizing novel funding options to support wildlife conservation
  • Promoting partnerships in wildlife conservation
  • Optimizing business-oriented wildlife conservation initiatives
