Prof. Alexander Songorwa

Prof. Alexander Songorwa holds a PhD from Lincoln University, New Zealand. Initially employed as a Game Scout in the Wildlife Division of Tanzania back in 1982, Prof. Songorwa has worked extensively and in various capacities within the Wildlife sector in Tanzania as both a practitioner and managerial levels, and in the academia. Starting 2001 he was a Lecturer in Wildlife Management at Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania for about 10 years. From 2012-2014, and again from 2016-2018 he served as the Director of Wildlife in Tanzania before being transferred again to Sokoine University. He therefore has extensive knowledge and real-field experience in wildlife conservation and management wildlife conservation in Tanzania and within Africa as a whole. Alex has published extensively both nationally and internationally. He voluntarily retired from the public service in July 2021.
