Mr. John Salehe

Mr. John Salehe holds an MSc (Forestry) from Australian National University– Canberra 1982-1983. A seasoned African environmentalist, he has more than 4.5 decades working in the field of conservation, including as a Senior official of the Ministry of Natural resources and Tourism in Tanzania for more than 17 years. He has worked for more than 10 years in some regional FAO and UNDP GEF projects in East Africa followed by ten years with WWF Eastern Africa Regional programme office based in Nairobi. His formal employment was concluded as a country director for AWF in Tanzania for seven years. John is endowed with conservation expertise biased in wildlife conservation and forestry, strongly founded on partnerships - bringing key stakeholders working with government to conserve our wildlife. He is a strong advocate of community conservation, private sector involvement and other non-state initiatives working together to achieve long term government set conservation goals, with support from development partners. He is also an expert in fundraising, project development and implementation and delivery. John is now mentoring the young generation in the multidisciplinary fields relevant to wildlife conservation, forestry and climate change. He is a Committee/Board Chair of several conservation-oriented initiatives.
