This Programme aims to provide students with the flexibility to develop the knowledge and skills they require relating to their own particular interests. The Programme is structured around both compulsory and optional modules and develops analytical and critical skills, independence, self-discipline and professionalism in Postgraduate Diploma graduates.
This programme is designed for students who already hold a relevant undergraduate degree qualification and are seeking a career as high-level managers within wildlife or natural resource management agencies, NGOs or private sector organizations.
Duration:one-year (September to June each academic year)
Mode: Full time
Training approaches include lectures, interactive structured lectures, directed and self-directed study, seminars, tutorials, student presentations, field and College-based practical training exercises. Postgraduate Diploma students undertake a Self-Managed Study module, participate in Postgraduate Diploma Tutorials and can select optional safari modules if they wish. At the end of the second semester, students conduct a Research Project.
Assessment and Award
Students must gain 120 credits to be eligible for the award Postgraduate Diploma. These credits are gained through passing all assessed Postgraduate Diploma modules. In order to pass Postgraduate Diploma course, a student must achieve a final module mark of not less than 40% (continuous assessment and final examination). In addition, a student must pass the final examination by at least 40%. Module continuous assessment is based on a mixture of practical exercises, written assignments, group and individual exercises, reports and final examination. Module continuous assessment is 60% and the final examination is 40% of the final module mark, unless stated otherwise.
Bachelor Degree in Wildlife Management, Tourism, Biological Sciences, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Fishery, Forestry, Beekeeping, Livestock production, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicineor any other related field from a recognized institution. A prior work experience in wildlife conservation, natural resources and environmental management sectors will be an added advantage.
