Programme Objectives

This Programme aims to provide students with the flexibility to develop the knowledge and skills they require relating to their own particular interests.  The Programme is structured around both compulsory and optional modules and develops analytical and critical skills, independence, self-discipline and professionalism in Postgraduate Diploma graduates.

Target Students

This programme is designed for students who already hold a relevant undergraduate degree qualification and are seeking career as high-level managers within tourism or natural resources management agencies, local government authorities, NGOs, CBOs, tour agencies or other private sector organizations. It is a suitable course for district tourism officers, tourism officers and wardens in protected areas, owners/managers of tour companies and those involved in tourism marketing at various levels.

Programme Duration

This is a one- year programme. It runs from September to June each academic year. Postgraduate Diploma students take a combination of compulsory Postgraduate Diploma level modules and optional Bachelor Degree and Diploma level modules depending on the entry qualifications of the students and coverage of tourism related subjects in students’ previous studies. Students may also attend these modules over a longer period to suit their own needs.

Training Methodology

Training approaches include lectures, interactive structured lectures, directed and self-directed study, seminars, tutorials, student presentations, field and College-based practical training exercises. Postgraduate Diploma students undertake a Self-Managed Study module, participate in Postgraduate tutorials and have the opportunity to select optional safari modules if they wish. At the end of the second semester, students conduct a Research Project.

In order to pass Postgraduate Diploma course, a student must achieve a final module mark of not less than 40% (continuous assessment and final examination).
